Biography & Approach

Brian Edwards, MFT (MFC 46737), specializes in treating individuals, families and adolescents struggling with addiction and the wide range of issues that invariably co-occur with it. He also has extensive training with individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, self-harm, and their co-occurring issues. Brian is also a certified Seeking Safety clinician, which is a present-focused therapy to help people attain safety from substance abuse, symptoms of PTSD, and self-harm.

Brian's approach combines resolving current issues as quickly as possible with an in-depth understanding of the self thru the use of mindfulness-based techniques. Mindfulness primarily focuses on true presence, deep listening, and cultivating awareness. For many, awareness is the first step to healing. Therapy is a collaborative process for persons wishing to take back control and responsibility of their lives.

Brian has trained and worked for many years at the Phoenix House as the managing deputy director of California’s largest female, adolescent, co-occurring treatment unit. The Phoenix House specializes in treating families and adolescents with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Brian also donates his time to MusiCares, which provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need, including human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.
